This ever-expanding exhibit showcases a deep appreciation for both content and design that spans the decades. The visual is impossible to separate from the sound in this collection, and the importance of these pieces to pop culture and media can be traced throughout The Archives. The majority of the pieces in this collection have outlived or outgrown their original purpose, and have become extraordinary with the passage of time. The Archives at The Verb provide unique insight into how we lived, what we experienced, and how we were influenced and inspired. Many of these, now priceless, items were acquired when record labels or other entertainment-centric industries believed there would be no long-term value to the items themselves. And years ago there was no Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, so if these pieces had not been collected and preserved, many of items on display at The Archives would most likely have disappeared forever. Other pieces in the collection were discovered at flea markets or yard sales or in attics or basements: people rarely know what they have hidden away. It is time consuming to record and preserve history, but for the curators of this permanent exhibit in Boston’s Fenway area, it is about passion and the desire to share the experience and emotional significance that is expressed in the collection.
